What if there was no intellectual freedom in Canada?
If there was no intellectual freedom in Canada images like this would be more commonplace and would loose their shock value. Books could be easily censored, banned or even burned if they were challenged.
Judy Blume said, "If every individual with an agenda had his/her way, the shelves in the school library would be close to empty" (quoted from the Freedom to Read magazine 2013). Fortunately, we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which protects intellectual freedom and has prevented this from happening. And each year we celebrate this freedom, the freedom to read. So come by the library and check out the displays of challenged books and exercise your freedom to read this week!
