What If?

What if there was no intellectual freedom in Canada?

If there was no intellectual freedom in Canada images like this would be more commonplace and would loose their shock value. Books could be easily censored, banned or even burned if they were challenged.

Judy Blume said, "If every individual with an agenda had his/her way, the shelves in the school library would be close to empty" (quoted from the Freedom to Read magazine 2013). Fortunately, we have the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which protects intellectual freedom and has prevented this from happening.  And each year we celebrate this freedom, the freedom to read.  So come by the library and check out the displays of challenged books and exercise your freedom to read this week!

February is designated as Black History month,
a time to remember the achievements of influential
African American leaders in our history.  This includes
historical figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X
and others who fought for the end of slavery
and the equality of all.  Check out these videos below
and come into the library to check out
the Black History Month display.
