If you liked Divergent, The Hunger Games or The Bourne Identity then you need to read this book. Tabula Rasa is the story of Sarah, a patient in a top secret government hospital where people are sent to have their memories erased, which is really extreme if you think about it, considering the novel is set in present day America.
But then something goes completely wrong during Sarah's "procedure." The power goes on and off numerous times and during one of the outages someone slips a plastic bag of pills into Sarah's hand. She has no idea what these pills are for except for the note in the bag that reads:
"TAKE ONE PILL AT A TIME, AT 24-HOUR INTERVALS.
24 HOURS EXACTLY.
REMAIN STILL AFTER TAKING" (p. 26).
Without another thought Sarah takes the first pill and is immediately hit with a memory from her past which knocks her to the floor; where she discovers someone has hid clothes for her and a passcard to open the hospital doors, someone is helping her escape! Sarah has just enough time to change her clothes before the hospital is rocked by an explosion and mercenaries being firing upon the hospital searching room by room for someone. It is then that Sarah realizes, "I'm on my own, stranded here, and no one is coming to help me" (p. 40).
Will Sarah escape from the hospital? Will she be able to survive if she does? And will she ever get her memories back and figure out her identity? You will have to read for yourself when Tabula Rasa by Kristen Lippert-Martin comes out next Tuesday, September 23!
